Why Choose Blake

Teaching Philosophy
My main objective in teaching is to assist in the academic and social-emotional development of each student that enters my classroom. I believe in the power of building strong relationships that reminds students of their innate value as individuals, and engaging students at a level that inspires curiosity and deeper thinking. My passion is creating engaging, differentiated lessons that boosts student engagement and builds toward mastery.
Every student that walks into my classroom deserves to feel valued and respected, and that is how I structure my classroom. Students will not want to learn from someone who they don’t believe has their best interest at heart. I utilize an authoritative classroom management system, meaning that I set high standards, the specifics of which are determined by myself with intentional input from students to develop buy-in. Relationships are the foundation of my classroom management style.
I believe in the power of technology in bringing education to life, and boosting student engagement considerably. Differentiation is the key to effective instruction, and the tools available for differentiation when utilizing technology are endless. Learning management systems like Canvas and Google Classroom allow me to specialize my instruction and pinpoint the learning resources and scaffolds necessary for each student.
A gamified classroom is a student-centered classroom, and I love to use online learning tools like Kahoot!, Quizizz, and Gimkit to assess student understanding and do so in a low-stakes environment that builds classroom community and facilitates discussion and peer-to-peer learning.
